This course is designed to guide students through the foundational principles of Arabic morphology (ṣarf) using a structured and practical approach. Based on Sarf Volume 1 compiled by (Mawlana) Muawiyah ibn (Mufti) Abdus-Samad, the course aims to make the study of Arabic word formation accessible and engaging for students seeking a deeper understanding of the Qur’an, Hadith, and classical Arabic texts.

Students will be introduced to the essential concepts of Arabic morphology through a carefully structured curriculum, covering the fundamental scales, patterns, and technical terminology required to analyse and understand how Arabic words are formed and transformed. The course focuses on developing fluency in recognising and applying morphological patterns through:

• Clear and concise explanations of key morphological concepts
• Guided practice of verb and noun patterns across the famous Arabic scales
• Detailed study of the nineteen foundational scales and their unique characteristics
• Step-by-step training in both the major charts (Ṣarf Kabīr) and abbreviated charts (Ṣarf Ṣaghīr)

• Analysis of Qur’anic vocabulary to reinforce practical understanding
